Family-friendly working structures have been an important topic at FAU for many years. The Family Service of the University and UKER coordinates and connects the diverse range of services available for mothers, fathers, children and their relatives in research, employment and studies.
Advice:
At the request of expectant mothers and fathers, a timely consultation can be arranged to discuss how family responsibilities and academic qualification can be reconciled in the individual case. The responsible (Department) Women’s Representative may also be involved in this consultation.
Maternity leave cover:
If staffing shortages occur due to the absence of a female researcher during maternity protection leave, these can be covered upon application by the University Executive Board. This also applies to employees funded through third-party funding, in order to improve the employment opportunities of women in project-based positions as well.
Childcare:
The Family Service of FAU offers various support services relating to childcare. Information on current childcare options, counselling services and registration procedures can be found on the Family Service website.
A family room at the Faculty of Engineering is available Monday through Friday to FAU students and researchers with children. The family room is equipped with a sofa, a changing table, a crib, and a spacious play area with a play mat and a “Kidsbox.” The room also offers workspaces with electrical outlets for parents.
