Doctorate at the Faculty of Engineering

These Faculty Regulations apply to all doctoral candidates admitted from 1 March 2025.
These Faculty Regulations apply to all doctoral candidates admitted before 1 March 2025 and have not agreed to the new faculty doctoral degree regulations in DocDaten by 30 April 2025.

The doctoral procedure is regulated across all faculties in the FAU’s framework General Doctoral Regulations and, in addition, the Doctoral Regulations of the Faculty of Engineering also apply. The current versions of the regulations can be found on the FAU website: General Doctoral Regulations of FAU Faculty Doctoral Regulations FPromOTech from 1 March 2025 These Faculty Regulations apply to all doctoral candidates admitted from 1 March 2025. Faculty Doctoral Regulations FPromOTech from 20 December 2020 For all doctoral candidates who were admitted before 1 March 2025, the Faculty’s doctoral regulations of 21 January 2013 in the version of 23 December 2020 apply. Until 30 April 2025, there is the possibility to agree to the new Faculty doctoral regulations in DocDaten.
General information on the oral doctoral examination: Possible formats:
- Pure presence examination
- Face-to-face examination with video link to a member of the examination board (except chairperson or doctoral candidate)
- Examination completely online
