At the official welcome by FAU President Joachim Hornegger and the Executive Board, we warmly welcome all our new students to FAU. Including the popular FAU bags and a cool DJ set.

The Faculty of Engineering offers several pre-courses and revision courses to review and consolidate the basics needed for a successful start to your studies. All these courses are voluntary, of course, but offer the perfect opportunity to settle in at FAU and get to know your fellow students. At the moment most of theses courses are in German, but we plan to offer English groups as well.

Mathematics revision course for studies starting in the winter semester

As part of the eight-day revision course before the start of lectures, the school subjects required in the first semesters of mathematics are repeated in a lecture, prepared and practiced in the tutorial in small working groups under supervision.

The mathematics revision course is a voluntary offer for all first-year Bachelor’s students at the Faculty of Engineering to refresh their knowledge of mathematics before starting their studies.

Students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences are offered their own preliminary courses.

A pre-test on engineering mathematics can be used to assess which mathematical skills you still have from your school days. The pre-test can be easily printed out and completed directly on the printouts. Have fun and good luck! Solution hints will be provided as part of the mathematics refresher course.

You can find the program of the mathematics revision course here: Program Mathematics Repetitorium WS 2025/26

Computer science repetition, accompanying offer in the first semester

The computer science revision course is an unsupervised virtual course for self-study and is aimed at all students of the Faculty of Engineering (especially computer science-related courses) who would like to refresh their programming experience in object-oriented languages or would like to improve it at their personal rate. As an additional self-study course, it is intended to make it easier for students to get started with object-oriented programming by introducing its components using the Java programming language as an example together with the recommended development environment IntelliJ (alternatively: Eclipse).

Click here to register for the online course.

Mathematics consultation hour – accompanying offer in the first semesters

The mathematics consultation hour is offered for students of the lectures on Mathematics for Engineers I – IV.

Pre-courses of the Faculty of Natural Sciences

You can find an overview on the page for preliminary courses of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

During the semester, the Faculty of Engineering’s Study Service offers various seminars on a range of topics to support you in your studies, career entry and further (professional) life. These seminars are financed by study grants and are free of charge for you.

The International Day is a virtual fair about staying abroad during your studies. It takes place in cooperation between the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (WISO) at FAU. It takes place every year in November. As soon as the current program is available, you will find it at www.internationalday.de

General information about the stay abroad can be found on the website International.

Twice a year, the Faculty of Engineering invites its graduates to a festive ceremony to celebrate their departure from FAU and their entry into professional life. It takes place on the grounds of the Faculty of Engineering in the south of Erlangen and is rounded off with a small reception.

At the registration page you will find the next date, the planned program, as well as the registration and a few impressions of the last ceremony.
