Part-time degree programs

For those who cannot study full-time, for example because of a job or family commitments, the Faculty of Engineering offers the possibility of studying part-time.

Foreign students who require a visa for study purposes to study at FAU must contact the relevant immigration office in advance if they are interested in studying part-time, as residence permits for study purposes are generally only issued for full-time studies.

Part-time programs make it easier for students to better combine their studies and careers or family. Courses usually take place during normal lecture times, so part-time study is mainly suitable for people who have flexible working hours. In short, a part-time degree program means that students have 12 semesters to complete their bachelor’s degree instead of the standard 6 semesters, and 8 semesters to complete their master’s degree instead of the standard 4 semesters. The time allowed for the master’s thesis doubles to a maximum of 12 months. The time allowed for the bachelor’s thesis remains 5 months, even in the part-time degree program.

The following part-time bachelor’s degree programs are offered by the Faculty of Engineering:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Science
