The Faculty Board of the Faculty of Engineering is comprised of the Dean, the Vice Dean and the Deans of Studies. The six departments of the Faculty of Engineering each present one Vice Dean respectively, who simultaneously acts as the Speaker of the Department.

The Faculty Council consists of elected members whose task is to represent the interests of all members of staff and students of the Faculty of Engineering. In addition to twelve professors, the council includes four members representing research associates, two members representing other personnel and four members representing the student body. The Dean, Vice Deans and Deans of Studies, as well as the Women’s Representative are also ex-officio members of the Faculty Council.

Minutes of the Faculty Council (FAU Tech intranet) (DE)

The Commission for Habilitations and Young Researchers was established as a quality control body that prepares decisions and makes recommendations to the Faculty Council on behalf of the Faculty Council. Final decisions are made by the Faculty Council. The committee is made up of one representative from each department (W3 professors), who are each appointed for two years. The First Vice Dean chairs the committee. The committee meets twice per semester, the meetings are not open to the public.

The members of the committee are represented by the current department spokespersons.

The Doctoral Committee is responsible for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Engineering at FAU. It is composed as follows: the Dean of Studies for Doctoral Degrees as the chairperson, two members per department who are authorized examiners, the Women’s Representative and a representative of the academic staff. A representative of the Office for Doctoral Affairs attends the meetings in an advisory capacity.

The Board for Communication and Public (ÖffKom) is an advisory body to the Faculty Board. The members of the ÖffKom discuss and vote on organizational issues relating to communication and publicity at the faculty. Final decisions are made by the Faculty Board.

The Examinations Commitee is responsible for all degree programs at the Faculty and is made up of six full-time university lecturers and one research assistant who is permitted to conduct examinations. The chairperson and the members are appointed by the Faculty Council.

The Examinations Commitee is responsible for the organization and proper conduct of examinations and is supported in this by the Examinations Office (Department L 6). It makes all decisions on examination and recognition procedures.

The Teaching Board (KfL) is an advisory body to the Faculty Council and discusses all aspects relating to teaching at the faculty, e.g. new degree programs, changes to examination regulations and modalities. These are then presented to the Faculty Council for approval.

Timetables and schedules for changes to examination regulations and the establishment of degree programs can be found on the FAU Tech intranet (DE).

All degree programs at the Faculty are managed by the Degree Program Committees. A Degree Program Committee may be responsible for one or more related degree programs. The chairpersons of the Degree Program Committees act as course directors at the faculty for the degree programs they supervise or for an individual degree program. The Degree Program Committee meets regularly to discuss all organizational and content-related matters of the degree course as well as changes to the examination regulations and passes resolutions in this regard.

This committee, which is made up of equal numbers of students and professors, decides on the use of study grants for faculty-wide measures. Further measures are discussed by the relevant faculty subcommittees.

The tasks, obligations and rights of women’s representatives are defined in the Bavarian Higher Education Act. As well as participating in appointment committees, the Faculty Council and various other committees, implementing the target agreements concluded between the University and the Faculty of Engineering is an important area in which the women’s representatives are involved.

The task of the Student Committee of the Faculty of Engineering is to represent student interests at the faculty vis-à-vis professors, the university management and the public.

The Faculty of Engineering’s Doctoral Candidates’ Representation is committed to the interests of doctoral candidates. It also supports and advises doctoral candidates individually during their doctorate.

Every year, a spokesperson and a deputy are elected by all registered doctoral candidates of the faculty during the university elections. The elected doctoral candidates from all five faculties form the Doctoral Covenant.
