What is the degree program about?
The Bachelor’s degree program in International Production Engineering and Management (IP) will prepare you for a career as an engineer in an international environment.
As a key industry and economic driver, the German mechanical and systems engineering sector stands for the innovative strength and technological performance of Germany as a business location. With a global trade share of approx. 20 percent, the industry is the leading supplier of machinery worldwide, ahead of the USA and Japan. Due to the high export share, all major production technology companies operate internationally and are always looking for engineers and managers with the same international perspective who, in addition to their knowledge of engineering, also have business and foreign language skills.
This is exactly where the IP degree program comes in as it enables students to gain knowledge not only of traditional mechanical engineering, but also of management in both German and English, ensuring they are well prepared for an international working environment.
During the course of your degree, you will learn about a diverse and varied range of topics, such as technical mechanics, design theory, production technology, and materials science, as well as management topics such as supply chain management and global operations strategy.
The international bachelor’s program builds on the successful industrial engineering and mechanical engineering programs. It focuses on production engineering and management and is designed to qualify German-speaking students for the professional field of production engineering in an international environment.
The degree program consists of lectures and seminars and course of approx. 126 semester hours per week (SWS), 12 weeks of practical work experience as well as a Bachelor’s thesis of approx. 10 weeks, which must be completed during the degree program.
The standard duration of study is six semesters. The number of credits required for successful completion – the degree program and examinations are based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) – is 180 ECTS credits in the Bachelor’s program.
The degree program is divided into modules, which are assessed with ECTS points. A module is a teaching and learning unit that is continuous and self-contained. The modules conclude with a module examination during the course of study. ECTS points are only awarded for successful participation in modules, which is determined on the basis of independent, definable performance in a module examination.

Brief overview of the course of study:
1st -2nd semester:
Mathematics for engineers, technical mechanics (statics and strength of materials), technical representation (hand drawing and 3D CAD systems), basics of computer science, materials science and business administration for engineers.
3rd-4th semester:
Engineering mechanics (dynamics), fundamentals of product development with design exercise, production engineering, fundamentals of electrical engineering and advanced lectures from the field of production engineering.
5th semester:
Study stay at a partner university, taking the international elective modules in the areas of engineering and management. 6th semester: Work placement and Bachelor’s thesis.
- Interest in technology and business as well as solid basic knowledge of mathematics.
- A fair interest in school physics, mechanics in particular, is also required.
- Good knowledge of or at least no aversion to the English language.
- Interest in how technical products work and how they can be manufactured.
The responsibilities of a production engineer or production manager include in particular the production planning and assembly of technical products combined with economic issues such as sales, supply and purchasing structures. In the course of your degree, you will acquire in-depth knowledge in all these areas, which you will be able to use in your future professional career.

Details and notes
The application deadline for international applicants is July 15th for the winter semester and January 15th for the summer semester.
