Program overview

What is the degree program about?

The research-oriented, interdisciplinary Master’s degree program in Energy Technology has a standard duration of 4 semesters and builds consecutively on the Bachelor’s degree program. The courses of the Master’s program are divided into 5 compulsory modules and a broad catalog of compulsory elective and elective modules:

  • 5 compulsory modules
  • Module catalogs specific to the field of study: „Process Engineering of Energy Conversion“ (VTE), „Electrical Energy Technology“ (EET) and „Materials Science and Material Technology“ (MWT). The courses are to be chosen within a field of study and give the student generous choices in putting together meaningful combinations of subjects.
  • Technical/Scientific and FAU-wide Elective Module Group. The elective modules suitably round off the Master’s program with freedom in the choice of subjects.

The module catalogs are completed by:

  • one advanced seminar
  • a laboratory practical course
  • an industrial internship
  • a master thesis with seminar presentation

In the sense of a meaningful focus, one of three fields of study can be chosen in the master’s program and an individual profile can be formed. The Master’s program consists of the following modules for each field of study:

  • 3 compulsory modules (15 ECTS)
  • 2 core modules specific to the field of study (10 ECTS)
  • Specialization modules (30 ECTS)
  • Elective modules (20 ECTS)
  • Soft skills (5 ECTS)
  • Industrial internship of 8 weeks (10 ECTS)
  • Master thesis with presentation (30 ECTS)

120 ECTS credits are required for the successful completion of the Master’s program.

  • Many options to choose from
  • Very good career prospects
  • First work experience is already gained during studies by completing an industrial internship
  • Numerous cooperations with industrial companies in the region (e.g. Siemens Energy, Framatome) offer optimal conditions for internships and jobs
  • Special position of research: The Energy Campus Erlangen-Nuremberg is a cooperation of research groups and companies around Nuremberg, all dealing with the topic of energy technology. The Energy Technology program is also involved here.

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) is an internationally recognized, professionally qualifying scientific university degree. It qualifies students for doctoral studies in Germany and abroad as well as for academic work in science and teaching. It also qualifies for professional entry into business, administration and politics.
