In this year’s QS subject ranking, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) achieved a place in a total of 22 subjects, two more than in 2025. Particularly noteworthy is the strong performance of the Faculty of Engineering, which has once again achieved outstanding results in several subjects.
Ranked among the top 200 internationally
As in previous years, Materials Science is ranked internationally among the top 100, in 96th place. Other subjects in the Faculty of Engineering ranked among the top 200 include: Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Among the Top 10 nationally
With these subjects from the Faculty of Engineering, FAU ranks among the top ten: Chemical Engineering in 5th place, Electrical Engineering in 6th place, Materials Science also in 6th place, and Mechanical Engineering in 8th place.
QS subject ranking:
For its subject ranking, QS Quacquarelli Symonds investigated over 6273 universities, before including a total of 1908 of them in the ranking. The 55 subjects included in the ranking are split into the five subject areas Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Science and Medicine, Natural Science and Social Sciences & Management The following categories are considered when evaluating the universities and their subjects: Academic and employer reputation, citations, H-index and international research network.
