Shanghai Subject Ranking 2025: Top Positions for FAU’s Faculty of Engineering
FAU is listed among the 100 most prestigious universities in the world in five subjects. In Germany, FAU even managed to jump into the top 10 in 18 subjects. A total of more than 2000 universities all over the world were evaluated in the ranking.
Global top positions for the Faculty of Engineering
Particularly outstanding: Telecommunication Engineering ranks among the top 50 worldwide. Two other subjects from the Faculty of Engineering are among the top 100: Energy Science & Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
In addition, these technical subjects are among the top 150 worldwide: Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Automation & Control, Medical Technology, Metallurgical Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering.
National excellence
At a national level, FAU ranks in the top 10 in 18 subjects. For the Faculty of Engineering, this is especially noteworthy:
- Telecommunication Engineering leads the ranking at #1.
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Science, Computer Science & Engineering, and Energy Science & Engineering reach #3.
- Automation & Control follows at #4, Materials Science & Engineering at #5.
- Other top 10 positions include Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.
About the ranking
The Shanghai subject ranking, officially known as the “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”, has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2009. A total of 57 individual subjects were assessed from the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences on the basis of various indicators. The ranking focuses on research. Indicators taken into consideration include research publications, citations, Nobel prizes and Fields medals. More than 2000 universities throughout the world were assessed for the ranking in 2025.
