About the Stanford List and the methodology

The publication data used for the study is based on a data extract from Scopus in August 2025 and refers to the citation year 2024. The criteria used to create the database of the top two percent of most-cited scientists in Scopus included citations, h-index, and citations of publications with different author positions. The database was first created in 2019 by Prof. Dr. John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University together with colleagues and is updated annually.
