Dr. Irem Unalan, alumna (former FAU PhD student) and currently a post-doctoral researcher at FAU’s Institute of Biomaterials (WW7), has won the Best Doctoral Thesis Award 2023 of the German Society for Biomaterials (DGBM).

Irem received her Dr.-Ing. degree in 2022 with a project that focused on the processing and characterisation of essential oils in engineered scaffolds made by electrospinning, 3D printing or foam replica technique, for potential applications in wound healing and hard tissue engineering, under supervision of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, Institute of Biomaterials at FAU. Her project was carried out with a DAAD fellowship.

The certificate was awarded during the annual meeting of the German Society for Biomaterials, held in Jena on 14-16 September 2023.
